| Andy Warhol, born Andy Warhola in 1928, was a controversial American artist heavily involved in the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. His paintings of famous American brands such as Campbell's Soup Can and Coca-Cola, and famous American artists such as Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor are just as popular today as they were in the '60s.
Warhol, in addition to being a painter, also became a record producer, an avant-garde film maker, printermaker, author and, of course, an 'A List' celebrity whose many friends included Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli, John Lennon and Michael Jackson.
Today, Warhol is chiefly remembered though for his Pop Art posters, his prints, his films, and his involvement with iconic 1960s pop group The Velvet Underground.
Andy Warhol died in New York in 1987 at the age of 57. |
